Saoghal so nách saoghal damh

[Thomas F. O’Rahilly: Measgra Dánta I, poem 33]

Diarmaid Bán Ó Hanglainn

1 Saoghal so nách saoghal damh,

ní hé an saoghal-sa ar saoghal,

saoghal ó nách saoghlach sinn;

baoghlach an saoghal, saoilim.

2 Níor thuigeas [ba thuigse shlim;

truagh nár thuigeas mar thuigim!]

nách í an tuigse do thuig mé;

tuig nár thuigse mo thuigse.

3 Anois tuigim nár thuig mé,

giodh mall do thuig mo thuigse;

ní fhaghaim lem thuigse ar dtoil,

tuigse do adhair d’antoil.

4 Mo thuigse ar thoil mo thoile

le toil do thoil mh’antoile;

mo thoil-se ar thoil na tuigse,

toil dár foigse fíorthuigse.

5 D’éis a dtuigim [truagh mo thoisg]

dar leam is duine díochoisg

nách géill ó thoil do thuigse

le céill oimh na hantuigse.

6 Mo thoil, a Dhé, ar do thoil-se,

coisgeadh dá toil mh’antoil-se;

mo thoil, mo thuigse mar so

tuig-se gan oil, a Íosa.
