Aisling thruagh do mhear mise

[Tomás Ó Rathile: Dánta Grádha, no. 44]

Domhnall Mac Carthaigh (an chéad Iarla).

1 Aisling thruagh do mhear mise,

fa-deara an suan síth-se;

amhra do chailg mo chridhe,

mairg re dtarla ar dtaibhse-ne!

2 Ní thig liom musgladh go moch,

ar shuan ní fhaghaim árach,

mo thruaighe nár hobadh inn,

codl uaire ní fhéadaim.

3 Ochán ! truagh nách tig mh’annsa

i dtaibhse ar cuairt chugamsa,

an ghnúis tsoidhealbdha, an ghruadh ghlan,

gidh tuar doimheanmna a deallradh.

4 Ni chreidim, ní chreidfe mé,

a teacht go bráth na breithe

im radharc a-rís, dar linn,

im amharc d’fhís ná d’aisling.
